Age & Fashion (So, this is 40)

I took this selfie in my new Beach Bunny swimsuit…

& to my surprise Beach Bunny responded asking if they could send me a suit & if I could write a feature.

At first I was sooooo excited… but let me tell you; that excitement quickly turned into doubt.

I thought to myself, do they realize I just turned 40 yrs old & not only that I’m single?

Do ya’ll remember that ‘Sex In The City’ episode where Carrie gets a cover that goes really wrong 🙈😂 ….

But then I thought about how times have changed.

Clothing campaigns like Good American broke barriers by featuring women of all sizes, shapes and ethnicity.

Not only that, but Khloé Kardashian & Emma Grede have nationwide searches for their next ‘Good Squad’ yearly.. giving women everywhere a chance to be showcased & inspire others.

While Good American has made tremendous strides in the fashion industry, opening doors for women around the country….I can’t help but to think about a population of women that are un-accounted for & that is older women who work in the corporate world 🤔

Getting back to swimwear for a second … I’m at the gym six days a week, so I was more than excited to show off some Beach Bunny swimswear.

I figured, if I hire Michael Franco to shoot it & if I got to shoot at a location like the Brexley, I would defn not have an outcome like Carrie in Sex and the City 😂.

And yeah I was right …. the outcome was just magical 💫

In today’s world, Sports Illustrated MJ Day, much like Emma and Khloé has also opened opportunities for women in the swimwear issue who would not have had a chance otherwise.

But I still don’t see any ‘older’ women.

To tell you the truth, I never really thought about it until I had a male friend actually tell me he felt a little uncomfortable looking at the photos because most of the women weren’t of legal ages.

Could it be that women in their 40s just shouldn’t wear the same brand of trendy clothing as women in their 20s?

To be honest I really don’t know the answer to that.  As a writer, i never feel attacked by other people’s opinion… in fact i find it intriguing and mind opening.  Everyone’s entitled to their own view point & I respect it.

My personal opinion is this:

I’ll even go as far as to say that I believe if brands started featuring more women in their 40s, it could actually increase sales by attracting a whole new demographic.

I also believe if brands started growing awareness around single older women.. it could help alleviate the pressure women tend to feel as they get older causing them to settle in un-healthy relationships. But let’s face it, that’s a whole feature article on its own 😂

So I’ll leave it with the same question I started with…
